Friday, October 14th 2011. Mountain View, CA: Shoreline Amphitheater

I got to Uproar at about 2pm. As I waited in line I heard a band called Hell Or High Water, and from what I heard of them they were good.
When I finally got in to the amphitheater, I checked out some of the booths, entered a contest and then made my way to the stage to see Art of Dying. They put on a great show and it was their first time in the Bay Area so that was awesome to be a part of.
The next band was a band called Black Tide. I had seen them before but I didn’t remember how good they were. They are all pretty young guys, around my age (19). It was awesome to see a band so young with such great music play with a big festival.
The next band was Sevendust. I had never heard them before but they were great and had a lot of energy. After about three songs I got some water, which was very overpriced ($4.50) but that is the way things are at concerts. After that, my friends and I did some shopping and sightseeing around the amphitheater. I heard a band playing and realized that it was Escape The Fate. I love them and really wanted to see them, so I ran to the other stage where they were playing. I really enjoyed their show, but their bass player wasn’t there. Black Tide’s bassist filled in for him, so that was kind of cool.
I was having an awesome time, but then the guy running the tour came out and said that Avenged Sevenfold (the headlining band on the tour) was sick, and wouldn’t be playing the show. He said the remaining bands would play a longer set with songs that they hadn’t yet played on the tour, and that Avenged would make it up to us by coming back in a few months. I honestly thought, “Oh haha, this is a joke,” because it was the last day of the tour and I know that bands do end-of tour jokes and stuff. When I saw how everyone was really upset and let down, it made me wonder if it was really true. Some people were so mad, they left.
After a little while the next band, Bullet For My Valentine, came out and played. They were pretty good and the crowd got worked up. The band played about an hour. I didn’t know many of their songs but I still had a lot of fun seeing them. After them it was Seether. They had a really awesome stage set up, with some TVs playing special effects. I have been listening to them off and on for years and was surprised at how many of their songs I knew. The singer from Three Days Grace sung a song with them – that was awesome, too.
After Seether the roadies set up for Three Days Grace. They put on a great show and they were pretty much the headlining band because Avenged Sevenfold couldn’t play. So they played longer than they would have and more songs. They really connected with the crowd, getting them to sing along and jump around. I have been a big fan of them for a long time, so I really enjoyed their set.
After Three Days Grace, we waited around a little bit, still thinking it may be a joke that Avenged Sevenfold wasn’t going to play. By this time it was only 9 PM. The tour management said all the bands would play longer sets, but it didn’t seem like they played much longer because 9 PM was the time Avenged Sevenfold was set to play. It was a little fishy. When they turned on the lights, everyone started to leave, and the roadies started taking everything down, I realized the show was really over and Avenged Sevenfold really wouldn’t play. It was a big let down and for me and the others I went with.
The promise that Avenged Sevenfold would make it up by playing another show didn’t make the situation better, because we would still have to spend 3 hours driving there and spend money on food and gas. It wouldn’t really be making it up to us. Don’t get me wrong, it was an awesome time and great show, but it still sucks the headlining band didn’t play. I think someone should have let everyone know they wouldn’t be playing sooner.
Also, the band was “sick,” but they played the day before and the day after. On a Facebook post about not being able to play the show, they mentioned they would see their fans the next day. It’s like they knew they would not be sick the next day. I’m still curious to see what they are going to do to make it up to us. Anyways it was a great show. The only things that would have made it better is if I didn’t miss any songs from Escape The Fate and if Avenged Sevenfold was there.
