Review

Up until a few days ago, I had never even heard of the band Cerebral Ballzy. Of all places, I heard their song “Don’t Tell Me What to Do” on a commercial late at night on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim.

The band formed in Brooklyn, New York back in 2008. Since then, the group has performed in both the US and the UK, and finally released their first album in July of this year.

Seeing the commercial made me curious for another taste. After getting the album, I listened carefully to each song. It’s something I had to do – true to punk, it was hard and fast. But once I broke the “language” barrier, the stuff that old-school punks talked about flooded into my ears. Skating, drinking, eating pizza, girls, and just overall rebellion is the theme that put the bow on this self-titled debut.

If you’re not used to loud guitars and lyrics being screamed at you, then this album (or just about any Punk album) is probably not for you. But if you are a fan of the Punk genre, these guys have kicked out an impressive debut, and are certainly a band to watch.
