Review
Selene, the last of the Death Dealers, awakes from a twelve year sleep and imprisonment by humans. She finds the world has discovered the existence of Vampires and Lycans, and humans are trying to eradicate both species. In “Underworld: Awakening”, Selene is separated from Michael and sets herself on a mission to find him. She unexpectedly encounters many obstacles, meets new faces, and finds out about a biotechnological industry that watches her every move.
I felt the storyline of Underworld had changed dramatically from being about the legacy of Vampires and Lycans, to about Selene. It had a few scenes in which I thought made a small connection to the previous movies, but overall the film had a new plot and focused more about the sexy and indestructible Selene. Besides that factor, the movie was enjoyable, with its action and goriness and unexpected twist. I couldn’t believe the twist in the film as she searched for Michael. Most of the time, I found myself jumping because of all the violence and gore. And I found the fighting scenes enjoyable to watch as well. Though there were a few scenes that were repetitive, I strongly felt that “Underworld: Awakening” was mainly about Selene’s ability to continue killing. If you’re looking for an action-packed film with loads of gore and blood, this is the perfect match.
